As of 2015, the rules for California's Second Chance Lottery games are that a player may only win once per drawing and is limited to 500 entries per game month. The 500 is a combined total of all of the available second chance drawings.
The items allowed to be entered in the Second Chance Lottery are limited to scratch-off tickets, Fantasy 5 and SuperLotto Plus. Each ticket or card for these games has a code printed on them. Once the codes are entered into the site, they are counted by an automated system that tells the players how many entries they have for the given calendar month. Some of these items will give players more than one entry into the drawing, but only count as one of the 500 allowable entered tickets.
The prizes for the second chance drawings vary from one drawing to the next. The California Lottery offers a link on its website that shows the drawings and prizes. The page also provides the deadline for entering tickets and when winners will be notified. Each drawing has a different availability date for entering. Some of the games open up a month or more in advance while others open just a week or two before. Players can sort the upcoming drawings by entry submission dates and the type of game.
