To remove mold from a humidor, vacuum it, sand the inside, wipe it down with alcohol and allow it to air dry. A plastic bag, a vacuum with a flat extension, alcohol, water, paper towels and fine sandpaper are needed for the task.
- Empty and vacuum the humidor
Take all of the cigars out of your humidor and place them inside the plastic bag to keep them fresh during cleaning. Turn on your vacuum and use the flat extension to vacuum the inside of your humidor.
- Sand the inside lightly
Scrub the inside of the humidor with fine-grit sandpaper. It is impossible to see the mold spores that may be forming, so scrub everywhere.
- Wipe the humidor down with alcohol
Wet a paper towel with alcohol and wipe the inside of the humidor. Do not over-saturate your humidor with alcohol. It is important to cover all of the interior surfaces without adding too much alcohol and moisture to the box.
- Wipe the humidor again with water and let dry
Wet a fresh paper towel with distilled water. Wipe down the interior of the box once more, hitting all of the spots you wiped down with alcohol to help dilute it. Do not close the box again until it has dried completely.
