Minecraft's minimum system requirements are modest compared to many newer games as of 2015, requiring a Pentium D or equivalent processor, two gigabytes of system RAM and an integrated or discrete video card. Minecraft also requires that Java 6 Release 45 or newer is installed on the computer.
Although Minecraft runs on machines that meet the minimum requirements, a more powerful system is recommended for an optimum experience. An Intel Core i3 or AMD Athlon II processor and four gigabytes of RAM are recommended, along with a more powerful discrete graphics card. Cards in the Nvidia GeForce 200 series or AMD Radeon HD 5000 series are recommended, as are any newer cards in those families.
Minecraft is dependent on the Java programming language and runtime environment to function. Java 7 and newer versions have introduced features that improve the experience of playing Minecraft and are highly recommended. Some players have reported difficulties with Minecraft when using 32-bit versions of Java with a 64-bit operating system, so matching the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Java with the equivalent operating system is also recommended.
Minecraft requires at least 200 megabytes of free hard drive space and an Internet connection for downloading files and accessing game servers. One gigabyte of free space is recommended for the best performance.
