Neoprene is soft, chemically inert, resistant to temperature, bonds easily with other materials and has an extremely low oxidation rate. In addition, the material is resistant to petroleum-based mixtures, such as grease and solvents. Neoprene is a synthetic rubber created from polymerized chloroprene.
Neoprene's traits make the material highly suitable for industrial applications and wetsuit construction. The chemical inertness is especially efficient for corrosion coating and adhesives. Additional applications include laptop sleeves, orthopedic braces and electrical insulation. Neoprene can withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit without physical degradation. Instead of melting or stretching, neoprene exhibits temperature-based degradation by hardening.
