Some of the most popular solitaire card games are Klondike, pyramid, Yukon, poker and spider solitaire. Although there can be other solitaire games, such as Canfield, golf and Freecell solitaire, the most popular seems to be Klondike solitaire. The objective of Klondike solitaire is to form all four suits from aces to kings in individual piles using the basic 52-card deck.
Klondike solitaire is played by laying out 28 cards in seven piles arranged from left to right so that the first pile has one card, the second pile contains two and the rest of the piles follow the pattern until the seventh pile has seven cards. The top card of each pile is face up.
Pyramid solitaire is another single player card game that is also quite popular and easy to play. The goal of this game is to get rid of all the cards that are in a pyramid shape, which contains 28 cards arranged in seven rows starting with one card at the top, two cards in the second row and the sequence is continued until all 28 cards are laid out in the pyramid pattern.
Just like the Klondike and pyramid solitaire card games, the rest of the popular solitaire games have their own particular layouts and rules. Although the exact origin of solitaire games is not entirely known, the first reference in history regarding this game dates back to the 1700s.
