Ninja Turtles video games span a number of consoles, with popular games featured on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game), the Sony PlayStation 2 (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up) and the Microsoft Xbox 360 (TMNT). Despite a number of console titles, however, the TMNT arcade game, which is no longer available, was the most popular game featuring the four heroes.
The TMNT arcade game was a side scrolling fighting game that was originally only available as an arcade cabinet. In 2007, a full version of the game was released on the Xbox Live marketplace, and featured the original four player co-operative play found in the arcade cabinet version.
Almost all of the most popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games are fighting or action oriented. The exception to this is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pinball arcade game, although this game was never ported to consoles.
The Xbox 360 game TMNT is still rated very highly, thanks to the combination of combat and platforming reminiscent of the Prince of Persia games (also published by Ubisoft). As a result, original copies of this game can fetch fairly high prices.
New TMNT games are often developed and released in conjunction with cartoon and movie reboots, although the classics are still regarded as some of the best offerings.
