Two-handed euchre is played with a standard deck of cards.
The dealer and opponent each get five cards dealt in sets of two and then three, with an additional two cards being dealt to the dummy hand. The remainder of the deck is placed in front of the dealer with the turn card facing up. Opponent has the first chance to name trump. If the opponent orders the dealer to take the turn card, the opponent can take dummy hand cards and discard two of the seven cards in his hand. If the opponent passes, the dealer may pick up the turn card and the dummy hand and discard three of the eight cards in his hand.
If the dealer does not take the turn card, the opponent can name another suit as trump. If he does not, the dealer must name trump and pick up cards in the kitty.
The opponent has the first lead, and the game proceeds as in a regular game of euchre. The opponent must take three tricks to make the point. Taking all five tricks earns the player two points.
In six-handed euchre, two teams of three people play to win tricks. The dealer deals five cards to each player for a five-round match. The person who plays the highest card in the trump suit, or the highest card if the trump suit isn't played, wins the trick.Full Answer >
