In order to run "The Sims 2" without inserting the CD into your computer, use a disc burning and mounting utility such as PowerISO to load a copy of the CD on your PC. Never download a so-called cracked version of the game, as these are illegal and are known to cause virus infections on computers.
- Download and install PowerISO
Navigate in your web browser to PowerISO's website. There, click on Download and select either 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your operating system. The 32-bit version works on all versions of Windows that support "The Sims 2" as of 2014. Run the downloaded PowerISO setup file, and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
- Make an ISO file from the "Sims 2" CD
Insert your copy of the "Sims 2" CD into your computer's CD drive, and open PowerISO. Click Copy on the toolbar, then select Make CD/DVD/BD Image File from the pop-up menu. When the ISO Maker dialog appears, select the CD drive with the "Sims 2" CD. Choose an output file name that easily identifies the file, and set the output format to ISO. Click OK and wait for PowerISO to finish creating the ISO file, which may take several minutes.
- Mount the ISO file in PowerISO
Open PowerISO. Click the Mount button on the toolbar, which displays the ISO Mounter menu. Click a virtual drive from the pop-up menu. Choose the ISO file you created for "The Sims 2," then click Open to mount it.
- Run the mounted copy of the "Sims 2" game disc
In Windows, open your Computer folder, and locate the virtual drive created by PowerISO. Double-click the icon for that drive, then follow the on-screen prompts to run "The Sims 2."
