Garry's Mod, or Gmod, is a sandbox-type video game where the user plays the game by manipulating the environment according to his liking, creating contraptions and engaging in battle with computer or real players. The game is played in first-person view, and players can explore other environments created by other players via the Internet in multiplayer mode.
Use the following steps to start playing Gmod.
- Set up the display
- Get familiar with the controls
- Select single or multiplayer game
After launching the game for the first time, click Options, Video and finally Advanced. Set up the display according to the computer's video capacity. Low resolution will result in a fast but blurry game, while high resolution may slow down some computers.
Players who have played other Source-engine games before will be familiar with the following controls: W, S, A, D for moving around, moving the mouse to look around, left mouse to fire weapon, right mouse for special weapon control, R to reload, Q spawn menu, left Shift to move faster, left Ctrl for crouch and F for flashlight.
After selecting Start a New Game, use the Physgun to spawn, move and control objects and other characters around. While playing the game in Single Player, press pause and then select Find Multiplayer game from the selection that appears. The server will download any custom content before logging on to the server.
