A play of the cards goes in the conventional clockwise direction and alternates between two teams, since the partners sit opposite each other. In the most common form of euchre, 24 standard playing cards are used, which consist of Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, and 9 in each of the four suits.
Five cards are dealt to each player in clockwise order. The dealer may deal the cards in any pattern, as long as all the cards are dealt two or three at a time. The remaining four cards called the kitty are placed face down in front of the dealer. The top card of the kitty is then turned face up, and players may choose the suit of the card as the trump suit by saying "Order it up," or refuse its suit as the trump suit by saying "Pass."
The cards of the trump suit outranks all other cards. The Jack of the trump suit, called the Right Bower or Right, has the highest rank. The remaining cards are ranked in descending order with Jack of the trump suit coming first, followed by Jack of the color of the trump suit, and the Ace, King, Queen, 10, and 9 of the trump suit.Learn more about Online Games
