In "Fallout: New Vegas," you will eventually be sent to the Nellis Air Force base no matter which path you follow in the game. Unfortunately, this is the home of the Boomers, who are perfectly willing to use their heavy artillery to dissuade visitors. Getting through their artillery barrage will require skill, speed and a fair amount of luck.
- Prepare for the run
First, you should make sure you are not wearing heavy armor that may slow you down. You should also send any companions back to your base, especially in Hardcore mode, because they will most likely be killed by the barrage. Finally, make sure you have stimpacks and Hydra to heal damage caused by close explosions.
- Use cover wisely
When you start out, follow close to the rock wall on the left side of the path, and run along it as it curves to the north. When you begin to hear firing, make sure not to stop running. The Boomers' indirect fire can hit you even if you cannot see the base from where you are. Once you reach the blasted town, you can try hiding inside any ruins that are intact enough to still have a roof to catch a breather.
- Run erratically in the open
While it may be tempting to make a beeline for the base fence, the gunners can simply lead you and ensure a direct hit. Zigzag while you are in the open, and move laterally to make it difficult for the gunners to predict where you will be. Once you get within a few yards of the fence, the barrage will stop and one of the Boomers will hail you.
