Needle punch embroidery is used to create dimensional needle art using a punch needle, which is used to punch the fabric with materials such as floss, pearl cotton or yarn. Needle punch embroidery also requires the use of a sturdy frame to keep the fabric tight, giving it a strong grip while punching.
Needle punch embroidery can be employed to create various items, such as decorations for pillows, bed sheets or fabric hangers, as well as to personalize T-shirts or tote bags. The punch needle is used to fill the design that is sketched onto the fabric beforehand, preferably with a water soluble pen or pencil. A number of filling materials or threads can be used for this method in addition to pearl cotton, floss and yarn, such as satin floss, ribbons and machine embroidery threads.
