Both free and paid "Minecraft" mods are specially designed additional content made by fans that modify the basic playing experience of the game. Some mods add different textures and visuals to the game, while others offer new modes of gameplay or mechanics.
"Minecraft" is a survival sandbox game developed by Markus "Notch" Persson and the Swedish company Mojang. The game was first released as a PC-only alpha trial on May 17, 2009, with the full version officially releasing on Nov. 18, 2011. Since its initial release, versions of the game have been made for numerous game platforms, including the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, as well as for mobile operating systems like iOS and Android. The game involves two different modes of play centered around the general concept of building and exploring a large open world environment.
In the survival mode, players must collect various resources from throughout the world in order to build structures and weapons to aid in attempts to live within the world. Both during the day and at night, various monsters and enemies attempt to attack the player. In the sandbox mode, players can freely build structures within the world while using an unlimited amount of resources.
