Model cars are replicas of full-sized cars that are scaled down to various sizes. The models include miniature buses and vehicles. The first model cars were made of brass and lead, while later models were made of iron, cast plaster, pressed steel, tin, plastic and zinc.
A market exists for adult collectors of model cars, focusing on premium models and limited edition series. Promotional models are also sometimes created to be offered to prospective clients of the full-sized car. Model cars can be fully assembled or in a model kit, awaiting assembly by the consumer. Model radio-controlled cars are powered by glow plug engines or electric motors and are controlled by a radio signal. Car manufacturers lease the rights to produce miniature models of their cars to specialized miniature manufacturing companies.
