There are over half a billion people worldwide who play videos games at least one hour each day, according to game designer and TED Talk lecturer Jane McGonigal. Of this amount, 183 million live in the USA.
Younger individuals are even more likely to play video games, with a staggering 99 percent of boys and 94 percent of girls under age 18 reporting regular game playing. By the time they reach age 21, the average individual has amassed over 10,000 hours of total gameplay time. The largest segment of gamers is not children, however; individuals age 36 and over account for 36 percent of total gamers – the largest demographic group. Most adult gamers have been playing for an average of 15 years or more.
