To make a vampire cape, sew a large piece of taffeta and velvet together and create a channel at the neckline for the tie that secures the cape. To get the correct length, measure from the neckline of the person wearing the cape down to the desired hemline.
A vampire cape is easy to make and does not involve any intricate sewing tricks. It is a quick project that can easily be completed in a few hours.
- Gather the supplies
- Pin the cape and sew the edges
- Make the channel
Only a few supplies are needed for this project. Collect a length of deep red or black taffeta and velvet, straight pins, a velvet ribbon, scissors and a sewing machine or needle and thread.
Lay the pieces of fabric together, with the right sides facing inwards towards each other. Pin the edges in preparation for sewing. Using a needle and thread or a sewing machine, stitch the edges together, leaving the neck open. Turn the cape right side out through the opening in the neck.
Lay the cape with the inside facing up. Fold the neck up and towards the bottom of the cape, about 1/2 an inch, and press with an iron. Fold it another 8 inches and sew it in place about 1/8 of an inch from the edge. Stitch about 1 and 1/2 inches from the folded edge to make the channel. Thread the ribbon through the channel, then sew both ends closed to secure the ribbon.
