You can make Silly Putty at home by using liquid starch in place of boric acid detergent. By combining the starch with white glue, you can create a glob of putty to play with. Add food coloring to make putty in fun colors.
- Gather the ingredients
Compile the necessary supplies to get your putty-making odyssey underway. You need white all-purpose glue and liquid starch. You may also use a few drops of food coloring to give the putty a vibrant hue.
- Mix it up
Mix white glue and liquid starch in equal proportions to create the putty. If you are using food coloring, add a few drops of the desired color to the white glue prior to combining the glue and starch. Once the color is uniform throughout the glue, combine the glue and starch in a bowl.
- Wait and knead
Leave the putty mixture in the mixing bowl for five or six minutes to set. Work the putty mixture in your hands, and knead it together for five more minutes. The putty is now ready to be played with.
- Have some fun
Your boric acid-free putty can be used just like store-bought putty. Use your homemade Silly Putty to make sculptures, take imprints or copy text from newsprint. When playtime is over, store the putty in an airtight container, such as a plastic sandwich bag.
