Construct a Nether portal in the PC version of "Minecraft" by making a rectangular doorway of 10 obsidian blocks and then lighting the portal on fire. Step through the portal to reach the Nether, a place that has strange creatures and hot lava everywhere.
- Obtain obsidian
Mine obsidian deep underground with a diamond pickaxe. Find the dark blocks near a lava pit where water contacts lava. Import your own water by carrying full buckets to a lava pit, and make an obsidian block. You need 10 obsidian blocks for a Nether portal.
- Configure your portal
Create your Nether portal in a secure location, such as the interior of a well-lit house without any hostile mobs nearby. Place four obsidian blocks in a row on the floor. Stack four obsidian blocks vertically on top of each other over both of the end pieces. Fill in the gap between both vertical pieces with two more obsidian blocks overhead. You should have a four-by-five rectangle with an opening large enough for Steve.
- Light the fire
Ignite the Nether portal with flint and steel. Make flint and steel with one iron ingot and a piece of flint in your crafting area. Hold the contraption in your hand, and right-click on the Nether portal to activate the gateway.
- Enter the Nether
Step through the portal to enter the Nether. This dimension has lava, soul sand and some useful items that help you find the End portal.
