Acquire a mini-tent pattern. Buy 1 yard of fabric for the tent and 1/2 yard for the flooring. Purchase extra fabric for four corner tabs of 3 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches each and 16 pole tabs of 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches. Wash and iron the fabric prior to cutting it.
Trace the pattern on pattern paper. Cut the pattern pieces, and pin them on the fabric. Cut the fabric according to the pattern. Now, cut out the corner tab pieces and the pieces for the pole tabs.
Sew the piece for the door panel, right side up, to the right side down part of the fabric for the door frame. Attach the frame to the interior of the tent. Sew the pole tabs together, and stitch two pieces of fabric with the right sides facing each other. Turn the pieces inside out. Stitch the top seams, and sew the corner tabs together. Place a piece of fabric right side up, and fold it from left to right. Sew the right seam. Fold the sides to tuck the center seam inside.
Turn the corner pieces inside out. Attach the raw edge of a corner tab, and stitch it to the raw edge of the tent panel. Place two tabs 3 inches from the base of the tent. Place another two tabs 8 inches from the base. Place the folded side of the corner tabs down towards the base of the tent. Repeat the process for the rear panel of the tent.
Stitch one of the panel pieces, right side facing down, to the top of the door panel. Sew the right seam to the side of the panel. Place another panel piece, right side facing down, on top of the panel. Sew the left side of the seam to panel. Place a panel piece, right side facing up. Now place the three-piece panel, right side facing down. Sew them in place. Repeat the process on the edge of the tent.
Pin the top of the tent to the right side facing down side of the flooring. Attach the other flooring piece, right side facing down, on top of the tent. Sew the edges of the tent. Turn the tent inside out. Close the opening in the fabric. Attach a ribbon to the top of the tent.
Use a pocket knife to trim the length of the poles. Ensure that one pole is shorter than the other. Wrap the poles with colorful duct tape to decorate them. Slip the poles through the tabs. Place two ends into the corner tabs. Insert the opposite ends of the poles into the corner tabs. Finish by tying the ribbon around the poles.
