  1. Make the template

Get a piece of cardboard, and fold it in half. The size of the cardboard depends on the size you want the pom-pom to be. For a pom-pom with yarn pieces 2 inches long, use a 4-inch piece of cardboard, and fold it in half.

  2. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard

Start wrapping the yarn around the piece of cardboard lengthwise so that the yarn goes over the fold in the cardboard. If you want a thick pom-pom, use more yarn.

  3. Form the center piece

Cut the yarn when you have enough wrapped around the cardboard. Cut a 6-inch piece of yarn from the yarn supply, not the yarn around the cardboard. Place the yarn through the middle of the folded cardboard, and slide it down to the open end. The 6-inch piece of yarn should be on either side of the folded yarn on the cardboard. Tightly tie and knot the piece of yarn around the folded yarn. This is the center piece of the pom-pom.

  4. Cut the pom-pom free

Slide a pair of scissors underneath the yarn at the folded side of the cardboard. Cut the strands of yarn, making sure that the sides are even.
