To make a pillow cover, prepare the fabric, cut the fabric, create the opening on the back of the pillow, construct the pillow case, and cover the pillow. This takes about three hours and requires a washing machine, a dryer, sewing materials, fabric, a pillow form and scissors.
- Prepare the fabric
Preshrink your fabric by washing and drying it in a normal cycle. This allows you to wash the cover in the future.
- Cut the pieces
Cut the piece for the front of the pillow cover by measuring the pillow form. Allow for a 1/4-inch seam on each side. Cut the piece for the back of the pillow cover, adding an additional 4 inches to the length.
- Create the opening
Cut the piece for the back of the cover in half lengthwise. Place the two pieces side by side with the printed side of the fabric facing up. Fold over the sides of each piece where they meet in the middle, about 1/4 inch. Fold them over again, and hem the sides.
- Sew the cover together
Sew the front piece and two back pieces together with the back pieces overlapping in the middle about 1 1/2 inches. Turn the cover right-side out. Put the pillow form inside of the cover through the opening in the back.
