Make a personalized journal by adding gold foil accents or washi tape to a store-bought notebook or by creating a homemade mini journal out of cardboard, paper and string. To personalize a notebook with a plain cover, wrap colored and patterned washi tape diagonally, horizontally or vertically around the cover, cutting it off at the edges. Outline the washi tape in thin gold foil tape for the finishing touch.
To make a button-and-string mini journal, lay a piece of 11-inch-by-6-inch cover paper vertically. Fold the right side in by 1 1/2 inches, and fold the left side in by 4 3/4 inches. Cut several sheets of paper for the inside of the notebook to 4 1/4 inches by 8 inches, and fold them in half.
Attach an eyelet on the back of the 1 1/2-inch flap cover on top of a 1-inch round die cut, and attach another on the back of the 4 3/4-inch flap cover on top of a 1-inch round die cut. Before attaching the second eyelet, tie a string around the bottom of the eyelet under the die cut. Staple or sew the journal pages into the cover at the fold along the 4 3/4-inch flap.
