A paper train requires little more than imagination and common household items: a toilet paper tube, card stock or construction paper, plastic lids, scissors and glue. By first tracing and then cutting out a train pattern on the colorful paper, children can create a toy train in a few steps.
Cut the train pattern out from the card stock or construction paper, and use a craft knife to score where the windows will go. Cut out square pieces of white paper for windows, and glue into place. Affix plastic lids to empty toilet paper tubes, and once the tubes are covered with colored paper, the wheels are ready to be glued to the base. Create the cowcatcher with one more piece of red paper, and paste it to the front of the train.
