Make scented candles by melting candle wax and stirring candle fragrance into the mixture before pouring the wax into candle containers or molds. You need wax, candle fragrance oil, dye, candle wicks, and glass or metal candle containers.
Cut wax into pieces, and place it in the top of a double boiler with water in the bottom portion. Melt the wax at medium-low heat until it reaches 150 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, place a candle container in an oven warmed to 150 degrees Fahrenheit, and prepare the wicks. To make the candle wicks, place a length of braided cotton wick or kitchen twine that is as long as the candle container into a metal wick disc.
Allow the melted wax to cool to 125 degrees Fahrenheit before adding 10 to 15 drops of essential oil or candle fragrance for every pound of wax and candle dye or food coloring. Place a dot of hot wax in the center of the bottom of the candle container, and press on the metal wick disc. Once the wax sets up, tape the top of the wick to a pencil lying over the top of the container, and fill the container with the wax. After the wax cools and settles, add more wax to cover any sunken areas.
