An easy way to make a pillowcase is to use an already-created pillowcase as a pattern, cut out appropriately sized pieces of fabric and sew the edges and the hem. Required materials are scissors, a ruler, thread and fabric.
Start by measuring an existing pillowcase to determine how big to make the new pillowcase. The standard pillowcase size is approximately 20 inches wide and 30 inches long. Add a 1-inch seam allowance on all seams, and an extra 3 inches to fold over the open edges. To make the pillow more interesting, add an accent hem of a different fabric to the open edge.
Cut two pieces of fabric to the necessary size.
With the right sides of the fabric facing down, pin the accent piece to the short edge of the pillowcase. Sew along the pinned sides of the fabric. Sew the hem into the accent fabric onto the pillowcase by folding it over and sewing it.
Place the two right sides of the pillowcase together along the three sides without the accent fabric. Finally, sew along those three edges, using a back stitch at the beginning and end.
Turn the pillowcase inside out and place the pillow inside.
