Make your own face paint to avoid exposing your skin to chemicals and allergens found in commercial products. A simple non-toxic recipe requires solid white shortening, cornstarch, white flour, glycerin and food coloring or fruit juice; you also need a paintbrush, tissue, soap and water. Simply blend the ingredients together until a creamy mixture is formed, add color and apply it to your face.
- Combine the ingredients
Gather together solid white shortening, cornstarch, white flour and glycerin. Mix together 5 teaspoons of cornstarch and 1 teaspoon of white flour until well-blended. Add 2 tablespoons of solid white shortening. Blend the shortening in with a fork.
- Mix in the glycerin
Add three to five drops of glycerin to the shortening, cornstarch and flour mixture. Mix until you get a creamy texture.
- Add color
If you want colored face paint, add a few drops of food coloring. Another way to color the paint is to use fruit juice. However, there is then a possibility that the colored face paint will stain your skin.
- Apply or remove the face paint
Carefully apply the face paint using a paintbrush. Make sure to keep it away from the eyes. Remove the face paint using tissue and warm, soapy water.
