Make a simple family tree template using Microsoft Excel's Shapes and Lines tools. Using the Insert menu, draw the desired shape in the spreadsheet, and label it with the child's name. Create more shapes to represent family members, arrange them into different generations, select a line from the Insert Shapes menu, and draw connections between the shapes. As an optional extra, create space below each shape for extra information such as birth dates.Continue Reading
Microsoft Office also features templates for creating different types of documents, and templates, such as family trees, are available for download. In Excel, click File, and select New or New From Template. If a family tree template is not pre-installed, use the search bar or look under Microsoft Office Online to find one.
Printable family tree templates are also available from FamilyTreeTemplates.net. The children's templates feature tree graphics, simple layouts and spaces for three to four generations. Older children may prefer some of the plainer, more detailed templates. Those templates include more generations, more information for each person and fewer graphics. Other resources on the site include a family unit history sheet and an ancestor sheet, both of which allow for more detailed research on single family members or the family itself.Learn more about Crafts for Kids
