The original LEGO factory is located in Billund, Denmark, and is still operational. There are LEGO factories in Mexico, Hungary, Denmark and the Czech Republic. There are also small factories at the LEGOLAND theme parks in England, Germany and the United States.
LEGO blocks are produced by The Lego Corporation. This family owned-business was established in Billund, Denmark in 1932. The founder, Kirk Chistiansen, was a carpenter, and most of the toys made in the beginning years were wood. In the late 1940s, however, the company expanded its production to include plastic toys including a product called "Automatic Binding Bricks." Those bricks were redesigned and released in 1958 as LEGO Bricks.
