The model number on a Singer sewing machine manufactured after 1990 is located below the handwheel near the power switch or the power cord. The model number on a machine manufactured between 1960 and 1990 can be found on the front panel.
Before 1960, model numbers were on a metal plate affixed to the front of the sewing machine. Machines manufactured earlier than 1960 did not have model numbers on the machine. Call the company at 1-800-4-SINGER, or email firstname.lastname@example.org with the serial number of the older machine, and a representative can help you identify the model number.
A free instruction manual for each Singer model is available on the company website. Go to the main page of the Singer Company website and click on the Support & Resources tab. Choose the Instruction Manuals link. Enter the model number into the Search field, and click the Search button. Do not enter letters that follow the model number into the Search field. The instruction manuals are downloaded in PDF format and can be viewed on your computer screen.
