After the release of Mario Bros., the character continued to appear in various Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. games. In 1985, Nintendo released the two original Mario Bros. platform games, Wrecking Crew and Super Mario Bros.The following year saw the release of Super Mario Bros. Special and Super Mario Bros. - The Lost Levels. In 1988, Nintendo released both Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3.
The year 1992 saw the release of Mario Paint, Super Mario Kart and Yoshi's Cookie. The launch of the Super Nintendo system in 1993 coincided with the release of Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars and Yoshi's Safari, among others.
Roughly 70 Mario-themed games were released in the remainder of the 1990s, most notably Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64, to accompany the Nintendo 64 system. More games, such as Dr. Mario 64, were released for that platform after the year 2000, as were a large number intended for the GameCube and Game Boy Advance systems.
