As of 2015, Wheel of Fortune Special Prize Identification Number (or SPIN ID) holders have the chance each weeknight to win $5000. SPIN ID holders are also eligible for VIP tickets to tapings and special offers from partners.
SPIN ID numbers are assigned to members of the Wheel Watchers Club, which can be joined by visiting Wheel of Fortune's website and clicking on Join Now. Each evening the program announces a new winning SPIN ID number. In order to avoid prize forfeiture, a viewer whose number is announced must verify the prize on Wheel of Fortune's website within 24 hours and click the Check SPIN ID link. Winning viewers should enter their SPIN ID number, Wheel Watchers Club User ID and password. Once the winner's status has been verified, a Wheel of Fortune representative will call to finalize the prize.
Wheel of Fortune, which made its syndication debut in 1983, has been trademarked "America's Game." On the show, based on the game "Hangman," three contestants compete for cash and prizes by calling out consonants to complete a word-based puzzle. In each round, only the contestant who solves the puzzle keeps the winnings. The contestant who amasses the most winnings in the preliminary rounds plays a bonus round at the end of the program.
