The PlayStation 3's Internet Protocol, or IP, address is a four-part number that both identifies the device on the Internet and enables the device to communicate on the Internet for online gaming and other services. Users have options for having the PlayStation 3 automatically obtain an IP address or setting one manually.
View and change the console's IP address by selecting the "Network Settings" option under "Settings" on the PlayStation's software. Choose the "Internet Connection Settings" and then "Custom" options to change how the console obtains its IP address. Setting the IP address manually may be necessary when the console is having trouble obtaining it automatically.
