In 1990, Kutaragi was the engineer in charge of research and development for the PlayStation. The PlayStation 3 was developed by Sony and manufactured by Sony EMCS, Foxconn and ASUSTeK. It was first released on November 11, 2006 in Japan. Kutaragi retired on June 19, 2007. Two updated versions of the PlayStation 3 were created - the Slim and Super Slim. A successor, the PlayStation 4, was released in 2013.
