Scioto Downs Racino, which is a combination racetrack and casino, is located in Columbus, Ohio. The 5/8-mile flat track, which caters to harness racing, boasts a smooth surface and high banking speeds.
The Scioto Downs Racino was the first of its kind in Ohio, opening in 1959 with a 10,000-grandstand capacity, a clubhouse and a 539-foot open homestretch. The track can fit nine starting horses and rigs and hosts both pacing and trotting events including the Charlie Hill Pace, Capital City Pace, Steve Sugg Pace, Tish Arledge Trot and Heart of Ohio Trot. The track reached more than maximum capacity on April 26, 1986 at over 14,000 attendees.
Gallo Blue Chip holes the record for pacing on the track at 1 minute 50 seconds in 2000 in the all-age category and in the three-year-old gelding category. In the all-age category for trotting, Shark Kosmos received the top honors at 1 minute 54 seconds in 2002. Other horse racing categories are the two year olds, two-year-old filly and two-year-old geldings all the way up to four years old. The last categories are the aged, aged mare and aged gelding.
As of 2015, the Scioto Downs horse racing track is only open from May to September with live racing on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and the occasional Sunday.
