Herobrine is the subject of a community-created creepy story about the game "Minecraft." Even though Herobrine is not present in any version of the game, as confirmed by the game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, many theories and speculations about the character exist and are still discussed, as of 2015.
Despite the creator's testimony, the first image of and the first story related to Herobrine are widely accepted to be canon of the character and were originally posted on the /v/ board of 4chan.
The story tells that Herobrine is actually Notch's dead brother, whose entity was somehow included into the game. The creator of the game, however, has repeatedly denied ever having had a brother and confirms that Herobrine, in fact, does not exist.
Herobrine's in-game character presumably appears as a human entity, similar in aspect to the main character's model, with bright white eyes. Many users refer to him as a ghost. Different from other characters and monsters, Herobrine possesses the ability to run within the game world and to teleport to any desired location, just like what the creatures known as "Endermen" can do, once they engage a player in combat.
As the story tells, the mysterious character is also able to manipulate the game world at will, often creating pyramid-like structures and tunnels from different materials. He only interacts with human players, ignoring any other character or monster of "Minecraft."
