The guitar chords for "Amazing Grace" are D Major, G Major and A7. The A7 chord is built off the fifth degree of the D major scale and is known as a dominant chord.

To play the guitar chords for the first verse of "Amazing Grace," strum the D chord on the word "grace," then the G chord on the word "sweet," and D again on the last word of the first line, "sound." Strum the A7 chord at the word "me" at the end of the second line. Repeat the same pattern of D and G chords during the third line, and in the fourth and last line of the first verse, play A7 on the word "now" and D on the ending word, "see."

In the second verse, strum D on the word "grace," G on the word "heart" and D on the word "fear" in the first line. For the second line, play A7 on the word "released" and D on the word "precious." During the third line, play G on "that", D on "appear," A7 on "first" and D on "believed."
