Follow the instructions row by row, For example, to crochet a lowercase letter a, Moogly instructs "Row 1: Ch 11, skip the ch closest to the hook, sc 10; turn. (10 sts)." The pattern has a total of 11 rows.
The Moogly pattern, hook and yarn selection produces a letter 3 1/2" tall. For smaller-sized letters, use thread and a steel hook. They recommend using a hook size two sizes smaller than the one normally used for a certain yarn. Lowercase letters are easier to make and recommended for beginners.
