What Does "EA" Stand For?

EA is the abbreviation for Electronic Arts, founded in 1982 by Trip Hawkins. The global headquarters for EA is located in Redwood City, Calif. EA produces games for every major video-game console, and hosts its own distribution network for digital copies of games, titled Origin.

EA is one of the founding members of the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, an independent organization that developed and uses a content-rating system to provide objective information about the content of games. The ESRB is voluntary, although most major retail chains in the United States and Canada only stock games that carry a ESRB rating.
