"Dota 2" is a multiplayer online video game published by Valve and distributed through its online platform Steam. The name is short for "Defense of the Ancients."
"Dota 2" is a standalone, commercial follow-up to the Warcraft 3 modification "Defense of the Ancients." The game is similar to real-time strategy games like Warcraft, but it focuses exclusively on online multiplayer. Two teams of five players attempt to overrun each other's strongholds and destroy an Ancient contained inside. Each player can pick from a list of 108 different heroes to play as. It is one of the most widely played games on Steam and has spawned a professional competitive scene.
