The China Blue Pattern was manufactured by Seymour Mann in 1998. The date of manufacture is indicated on the back of the fine porcelain platter using the Roman numerals MCMXCVIII. The platter’s manufacture has since been discontinued.
Blue and white wares refer to white porcelain and pottery decorated below the glaze, mainly using cobalt oxide. These decorations are typically applied by transfer-printing, by stenciling or by hand. Porcelain technology was first applied in China in the 14th century, which saw the white-and-blue technique fully develop. These porcelain pieces are highly prized and widely sought after by collectors from around the world.
