In Pok?mon Emerald, get Cyndaquil by talking to Professor Birch after completing the Hoenn Pok?dex entry. He offers one of the three starter Pok?mon from Generation II: Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile. This is only a feature in Pok?mon Emerald; players do not receive the same reward for completing the Pok?dex in Pok?mon Ruby and Sapphire.
The Hoenn Pok?dex contains 202 Pok?mon, 135 of which were introduced in Generation III. In order to complete it, players must possess every Pok?mon featured in the game, including the three starter Pok?mon: Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip. Because players can only choose one of these at the start of the game, completing the Pok?dex requires trading Pok?mon from other copies of Pok?mon Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald.
In addition, there are five Pok?mon in the Hoenn Pok?dex that do not appear in Pok?mon Emerald that must be traded over from the Ruby and Sapphire versions: Meditite, Medicham, Roselia, Zangoose and Lunatone.
There are also the legendary Pok?mon Jirachi and Deoxys, which do not appear in any Generation III games without connections to other games or through items received at special real-world events. Jirachi is only available on the Pok?mon Colosseum bonus disc, by completing the game Pok?mon Channel or through special giveaways. Deoxys is only found in-game on Birth Island, which requires an Aurora Ticket from a Nintendo event to access.
