The colors in a box of 24 Crayola crayons are red, yellow, blue, brown, orange, green, violet, black, carnation pink, yellow orange, blue green, red violet, red orange, yellow green, blue violet, white, violet red, dandelion, cerulean, apricot, scarlet, green yellow, indigo and gray. Crayola crayons were first sold in a box of eight colors in 1903.
Crayola added 40 crayon colors in 1949, 16 in 1958, eight in 1972, 16 in 1990, 16 in 1993, 24 in 1998 and four in 2003. The company retired eight colors in 1993 and four more in 2003. It has changed the contents of its crayon boxes many times and has also renamed a number of colors.
Crayola sells a variety of different box sizes, the most common of which contain either eight, 16, 24, 48, 64, 96 or 120 crayons. The company has offered boxes of as many as 200 crayons. It also offers specialty crayons, such as scented and oversized crayons.
Other products sold by Crayola include chalk, colored pencils, markers and paints. The company was originally called the Binney & Smith Company. It was founded in 1885 and changed its name to Crayola LLC in 2007. Crayola crayons are in the National Toy Hall of Fame.
