“Animal Jam” is an online game in which players create their own animals and control them in a virtual world. National Geographic supports the game for being fun to play and full of educational content. It's completely free to play and doesn't force outside advertising on kids during gameplay. To play, however, kids do have to create a free account.
Smart Bomb Interactive launched the game in 2010 to provide kids with a fun way to learn about wildlife, plant conservation, teamwork and global awareness. With a focus on teamwork, the game encourages kids to work with other players in the virtual world.
When players first start playing “Animal Jam,” they create their own avatars. In the virtual world, they can to adopt pets, decorate their virtual homes, play games, trade gifts and chat with others. There are single and multiplayer minigames to enjoy in “Animal Jam.” Winning these games rewards the players with gems, which is the in-game currency. They can use these gems to buy items, pets and additional accessories for their avatars.
