Vintage lawn jarts, or lawn darts, that were made before the 1980s can only be found on individual seller websites such as Yakaz.com or CraigsList.com. Metal-tipped lawn darts have been banned for sale in the United States due to the safety hazard they present.
In the mid-1980s, several cases were reported of individuals being seriously harmed or killed by metal-tipped lawn darts, especially children. In 1988, the Consumer Product Safety Commission passed a nationwide ban on the game, but did not require destruction of sets penalized by law. Only individuals who own these sets are able to sell them, and they are now something of a collector's item. The website eBay.com has also banned selling these items for safety reasons.
