The Sims is no longer available to be played online for free. Sims Social, the free online version of the Sims, which was available on as a Facebook game, was discontinued on June 14, 2014. According to the press release from Electronic Arts, makers of the Sims, the game was pulled because of lagging popularity.
The Sims computer games and expansion packs can still be purchased and played on a computer. The Sims 4 debuts in Fall 2014. Like earlier versions, the Sims 4 allows players to develop a career, home and family, but adds additional features such as emotion-based gameplay, ability to multi-task and easier building design. The Sims 4 features smarter Sims, weirder stories and vibrant neighborhoods. The Sims 4 also has lower technical requirements and can run on lower end systems.
The Sims 3 is an older version, released in 2009, and can be found at online retailers and used video game stores for low prices. Regardless of which version is selected, nearly endless gameplay and character development gives The Sims an excellent entertainment value and worth purchasing. The original game and its many expansion packs can be purchased at websites such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Electronic Arts' online store.
