To make a duct tape bag, overlap strips of duct tape to make fabric pattern pieces for the sides and the bottom of the bag, and attach two straps made from strips of duct tape. For a personal touch, use colored or printed duct tape.
- Create the pattern pieces
This tote bag requires five pattern pieces, not including the seams or the straps. To make duct tape fabric, slightly overlap strips of tape with the sticky side facing up. When the piece reaches the desired size, turn the sheet 90 degrees, and add more overlapping strips of tape with the sticky side facing down until you fully cover the first side. If needed, trim any excess duct tape. For the front and back of the bag, you need two fabric sheets that are 16 inches long and 12 inches wide. For the sides, you need two sheets that are 12 inches long and 5 inches wide. The bottom pattern piece is 16 inches long and 5 inches wide.
- Lay out and tape the bag
Lay the front pattern piece on the table with the two side pieces on either end. To join the pieces, use 12-inch strips of duct tape on both sides. Next, use 16-inch strips of tape to attach the bottom piece to the back one and the bottom to the front piece. Fold up the sides, and tape the remaining seams on both sides.
- Add the straps
Create two 24-inch straps that are made of two strips of duct tape taped together. If desired, use scissors to round the edges. Connect the straps to the bag with duct tape.
