Dharma Trading and Lion Brand provide felting instructions for various types of crafts, with Dharma Trading providing instructions using the different techniques of wet and Nuno felting. Martha Stewart also provides a variety of instructions for felting projects.
Wet felting involves combining layers of wool yarn into one flat felt fabric. The Nuno felting technique is similar, but it takes longer than wet felting and uses cold water rather than warm.
Felting occurs when wool fibers are exposed to agitation, heat and moisture, which make the fibers cling to each other and form a new type of fabric. Felting can be done in either a washing machine or a sink.
