The value of Cabbage Patch dolls depends on their popularity with collectors and how hard a doll is to find. Another important factor is whether the doll still has its original birth certificate.
The original dolls from the early '80s and some of the current dolls that were made by Xavier Roberts are worth anywhere from six to 10 times more than other versions. Those dolls are called Cabbage Patch Original Kids. Some of the special event dolls are worth nearly the same as the originals. For example, one set of dolls based on the 2008 U.S. presidential candidates was sold for more than $59,999, while a doll based on Donald Trump was sold for nearly $6,750.
Since 1980, many types of Cabbage Patch Kid dolls with various attributes have been released. Some of these dolls are more sought after by collectors than others, but some of the most popular dolls are signed by the original creator, Xavier Roberts. All of the companies who have manufactured the dolls, including Hasbro, Toys R Us and Mattel, have created lines of the dolls that do or wear something special or correspond with a specific event, like Christmas. These dolls also have a higher value.
