The front of the Australian 50-cent coin features the profile of Elizabeth II. The back has gone through a number of design changes since first being introduced in 1966. As of 2014, the design features the logo of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.
The design issued in 2014 commemorates the 50th anniversary of AIATSIS, featuring its logo in the center and its name and the number "50" underneath. Many different designs have been featured on the 50-cent coin's reverse side, but the Commonwealth Coat of Arms has been one of the most frequently used images.
