The original "Animal Crossing" game was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. Since then, there have been a number of sequels for Nintendo consoles and hand-held systems, such as "Animal Crossing: New Leaf" and "Animal Crossing: City Folk."
A second "Animal Crossing" game was planned for the GameCube, but never released. Instead, the series continued on the Nintendo DS with "Wild World" and resumed on Nintendo consoles with "City Folk" for the Wii. The Nintendo 3DS also has the game "New Leaf." As of June 2015, an Animal Crossing game called "Happy Home Designer" is scheduled for a late 2015 release.
